Picture of the Month Contest - February 2014

The theme for February's picture contest is "Macro Shots"

For "Macro Shots" we mean close ups it doesn't have to be an actual macro shot, but real macros are also accepted... and desired.

Submissions will start on February 1st. tomorrow, be ready to vote after the 3rd week of the month.

Remember, everybody can submit pictures and once we reached a maximum of 20, no more pictures will be allowed to be submitted. so hurry up before it is too late, and don't forget, the winner will get 10 free raffle tickets for February's ORCA meeting.

I'm not trying to scare anybody, but those pictures in RC were taken by professional photographers.
If we can achieve something like that it would be a winner here immediately.

So start taking close up pictures and submit them, we all love to see beautiful pictures.

Just an FYI for those of you with the iPhone 5 and 5S. You can capture some pretty nice shots with this phone. Obviously, if the coral is close to the glass, you have the best chance of getting a great shot.

If you can move a coral to a location about 2-3" from the glass, this is best. Then, make sure the camera "app" is off. Make sure to have your phone facing the tank, and then click the camera app. The iPhone 5 "tries" to adjust for white balance, but being it's just a phone, it isn't great. Anyways, once the camera is open, put the phone right against the glass and have at it.

Make use of the zoom feature, and always make sure to "tap the screen on the point of focus so that it will re-focus each time.

The images might not be the best "close-up/macro", but it might just win the contest for ya!
