    Greetings, yup another newb

    Hiya

Just wanted to introduce myself, I was told I just had to join up by a few regulars here..lol Not sure of there screen names though, Jim and chip. anyway, I am starting a 55gal salt tank, going with a DSB, and just got a sump and some other stuff from a local guy that is also on the site...caldone? not sure. Been trying to do as much research as possible to make this successful, and trying to keep it simple at first as well. I am a pretty patient guy, so I know that will help too

I have heard some great things about you guys already, and its amazing to hear that in the times we are in, since humanity in general has just gotten so mean to one another.

And without further adieu, the pics.

still got alot of work to do, and still need a bunch of stuff of course, but its a start sooo excited.

    Welcome to ORCA!

Good luck with the tank. There's a lot of knowledge on the site. You may want to reconsider the tank placement. The natural sunlight from the door will make it difficult to control algae.

Good to see you on the site Jonny. Make sure you read thru n follow the directions on the spectra pure rodi unit set up. its kinda troublesome but its once and your done for the most part and you will get a much better life out of everything. A few drops of extra water down the drain will not hurt anything and the internals will last longest this way. its just a few pennies of water a month in the end. i love my spectra pure system. did you want to come over this weekend for the rock? I think im going to the reef conference from about 12-5 on saturday but i'm home the rest of the weekend. i did not get that piece of live rock yet for you but im working on it, its still a possibility, i may car pool with chip and get it then. Pics look good i agree tank away from window if possible.
    Four individual systems Right now.
30gal red sea 130d lps/softies/anemone tank, kalk ato, reef bright led strip.
    40 softies set up.
550 total gallon marineland 300 DD main system 18 months old now and stabilized. T5 VHO lights/ BLUE led strip, Fully custom built LIFE REEF sump and FUGE, AWESOME 60" tall skimmer, and 1000+ gallon rated custom Ca reactor, 3 50 gallon attached SPS frag systems lite with a combination of HM and LED and T5 fixtures.
A 200 gallon MARS quarintine with UV system/ medication for new arrivals.

Still lots to learn about the hobby but I have amassed a great collection of real beauties. I have broken past the stage of keeping things alive and now there actually growing out. Which is a big hurdle for many beginners I must admit. Good information and advise is hard to get sometimes and the club has done wonders with respect to quality advise and help in the hobby.

    THANKS Orlando Reef Educators Organization!!!!

ha...I wasn't getting notified that there were replies..lol

    so...sorry about that.

ok..yes, I did move the tank...a bit, but we rarely have those open or even let light in there, I just had them open for picture purposes.

and I really want to thank chip and jim for some amazing help and advice and these wonderful rocks (although I think I might need to get some more heheh).
    Thanks so much gentlemen.

    A little update here.

everything is up and running, as per your instructions jim, going to give the salinity level a couple of days to stabilize, and then I will add the master rock. heh

also chip, I was able to go down to petco and exchange the salt for reef crystals, so all is good there, was a little unhappy and surprised they had sold out of test kits though.

I will be in tampa most of the week so I hope nothing goes wrong while I am away, (my wife will have a cow) but next weekend I will put in the snails and hermit crabs, order a refractometer, test kit. hmm, oh ya, get some actinic bulbs, anything else?

    peace

You can get test kits from lots of places. Check at some of your local fish stores. You can buy them online, if you don't have any luck locally (Salty Supply, Dr. Fosters and Smith, and Bulk Reef Supply to name a few).

fwiw, Salty Supply is located in Altamonte so you can place your order on-line, pick-up in-store, and pay with cash. Plus they have nice displays you can ogle while you wait for them to bring your stuff to the front.
